Coblation RF

High Performance at Low Temperature

ArthroCare invented Coblation® technology for arthroscopic surgery. No one knows the science better, and no one has more experience applying it to the demanding requirements of the orthopedic surgeon.

How Coblation Technology Works

Coblation uses a controlled, non-heat driven process in which bipolar radiofrequency (bRF) energy excites the electrodes in a conductive medium, usually saline solution, to create a precisely focused, charged plasma gas. The energized particles in the plasma have sufficient energy to break the molecular bonds within tissue, causing tissue to dissolve at relatively low temperatures (typically 40°C to 70°C). Because the RF current does not pass directly through the tissue during the Coblation process, tissue heating is minimal. The result is volumetric removal of the target tissue with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

Coblation versus Conventional

How Ambient Technology Works

The Ambient ArthroWand Collection is the first series of bRF Wands to provide accurate, real-time temperature measurements of the operative environment. When paired together, the QuantumTM 2 System and Ambient thermocouple technology allow the surgeon to effectively monitor current temperature measurement of the arthroscopic irrigating fluid. This system is equipped with an alarm mechanism that visually and audibly alerts the user when temperatures exceed a predetermined limit.

  • Thermocouple technology allows for accurate temperature feedback (+/- 3° C)
  • Warning alarm sounds and visual indicators occur when fluid temperature exceeds user-selected alarm set point
  • Integrated Finger Switches (IFS) deliver power and control at the push of a button
  • Effortless assembly with the Quantum 2 System
  • Compatible with the Quantum 2 System ONLY
